Welcome to winonprofootball.com! We have attempted to create a straightforward, simple, user friendly site to provide access to our alternative handicapping viewpoint.

How it Works

In 2021, we are offering our selections absolutely free for the entire season via twitter (@winonprofootbal) and instagram (winonprofootball) at least one hour before kickoff.  If you prefer to use the website, all tweets will appear in realtime on the Home Page. Tweets relating only to our picks for the week will also appear on the 2021 Plays page in realtime. The tweets will allow anyone wanting to utilize the Green Machine in 2021 free and timely access to the selections, but it will also provide a documented, time stamped, history of all our selections for 2021, so that in the future the public will have proof of the legitimacy of our record in 2021 and beyond.  We are doing this to separate ourselves from all the services that make unsubstantiated and likely false claims about their winning percentages, so that you will see that by following us, you really can WIN ON PRO FOOTBALL. 

The site also contains detailed information about us, including our philosophy, biographical information on Jimi Green (the pseudonym of the architect of the Green Machine), the cornerstone statistic upon which the green machine was constructed and our 62% winning record over each of the past four years, expressed in summary form, as well weekly record and individual game record, including weights assigned to each game, as well as a year by year comparison with other handicappers selling their picks online. Spoiler — Our weighted record beat them all in 2017, 2018 & 2020. In 2019 we beat 25 out of 26 and tied one at 62%.

Jimi’s Jam is our blog, where Jimi will muse on various topics, on an irregular basis, primarily in the nature of a post-mortem on the preceding week’s games and selections.

How We’re Different Than Other Sites

To avoid any frustration or unmet expectations, it is important that you understand the primary ways that this site differs from other handicapping sites and the reasons involved. After decades of studying football statistics, trends, patterns, line movement, money management and the like, Jimi decided that consistency in approach to all games was a necessity.  He also uncovered the cornerstone statistic over a dozen years ago. Over the years, he has tinkered and tweaked a variety of variables seeking to create a "black box" type system that would be immune to human error and emotion. After years of revisions and "data snooping", the Green Machine has not undergone any revisions in the past six years and has continued to perform consistent with its past results.  For these reasons:

  • We will only play selections generated by the "Machine". This means the number of plays per week will vary and there may be some weeks with no selections or only 1 selection. We believe that no action in a given week is preferable to losing.

  • There will be no selections in weeks 17 or 18. Historically we did not play week 17, due to questionable motivation and resting of starters by playoff teams, and are going to be cautious in the first 18 week season and adhere to our practice of closing shop after week 16. We believe that no action in weeks 17 and 18 is preferable to losing.

  • Plays will be weighted as 1, 2 or 3 units.  Although the weighting of plays has only a minimal effect on our annual winning percentage, over the past four years, it has allowed us to net an additional 3 units per season on average. If you begin the season with a 10 unit bankroll, that means your return would have been approximately 30% higher if each pick was played for the designated number of units, rather than strictly playing each game for one unit. Each season’s results are tabulated based upon games played, as well as units played.

  • The Green Machine is largely based upon a single statistic that has held true for all teams across the league for 36 straight seasons; however, it is a season long statistic, so although the system has enjoyed a consistent winning record season after season, it does not necessarily post a winning record in any given week.  Therefore, I urge you to be careful about jumping on the bandwagon mid-season.

  • There will never be any explanation or statistics supplied in support of any of the selections, as the reason will always be the same…… "The Machine generated this game as a selection". Besides, we view most statistics quoted by other handicappers to be garbage anyway.
