Mid Season Message
So, we are halfway through the season and I have not written a blog yet. A few reasons, but mostly my day job has been getting in the way. Also we have had a largely uneventful season so far, teetering around the .500 mark all year. Part of this may be due to the reduction of 2 unit plays—in fact there have been none so far this year and there is a strong possibility that there will not be any. All I know is that the criteria for a double unit has changed and no game has met that criteria yet.
Presently, we sit at 8-7, which is good enough to keep our heads above water but not good enough to quit the day job. Volume has been low, with only 15 plays in 9 weeks, but that is the nature of having a system, the plays are what they are and nothing can influence that, although this week, there will be at least 5 plays. That is just the way it is—I have no control over how many or how few games qualify for plays.
Last year, after 9 weeks we had played 16 games, rather than 15 this year, but our record was 5-11 in games and 7-18 in units, after adjusting for multiple unit games. But right at this point is where our fortunes reversed last year. Over the next 3 weeks (weeks 10,11,12) we proceeded to go 14-2 in games and 21-5 in units. A hot streak like that would be very welcome right about now.
So far this year, we have had our share of easy wins, like the Saints rolling over the Raiders 24-0, some tough wins, like Carolina hitting a bomb against Atlanta 2 weeks to send the game into overtime, which Carolina ended up covering despite missing the game winning extra point and a chip shot fied goal. We also had our share of heartbreaking losses, like the Saints losing by 4 to Cincinnati after leading most of the game and Cincinnati only needing a field goal to win, when Jamarr Chase broke a tackle to go all the way for a TD with seconds remaining and finally, we had some crushing losses, like week 9’s game between the Bengals and Panthers.
Next week could be season shaping as we are hovering around .500 and will have at least 5 plays this week starting Thursday night with Carolina at home getting 3 in their rematch with the Falcons. The Panthers lost a heartbreaker when they missed a long extra point after DJ Moore’s helmetless celebration of what should have been the go ahead TD with seconds remaining and then a chip shot field goal in overtime, so they should be pumped for this home game on a short week. Thanks to the point spread, we did not share their misery, as the last minute TD allowed us to cover. We will also be playing the 9:30 a.m. Sunday game from Munich, taking the Bucs and giving 2.5 to the Seahawks. Other Sunday games will be released by noon Sunday and Monday night by 7pm on Monday.
Looking forward to the second half of the season and continuing to WIN ON PRO FOOTBALL.
