Welcome to 2023
Well, another football season is nearly upon us and that means it is time to WIN ON PRO FOOTBALL. Selections will be posted on Twitter (now X) approximately one hour (or more) before game time, as in the past. The Tweets will also appear on the website, time stamped to maintain 100% transparency as to our record. There are six seasons of our record already on the site, including time stamped Tweets for the last 2 seasons. By our standards, the last two seasons have been subpar, although they at least reached the 53% needed to come out ahead after vig. Most handicappers do not string together winning seasons and our modest record over the past two years is still better than most. Unfortunately, many do not honestly self-report the results and leave them where they can be found and studied, so that they can claim to be better than they really are.
Last year, our cornerstone statistic, that the Green Machine was built to exploit, was again over 70% for the 38th straight year. It could be longer, but that is as far back as my records go. Unfortunately, that statistic does not translate directly into a betting opportunity, which is why the Green Machine was built and tinkered with over the years to try to maximize the return on something that is as dependable as things can get. There have been no revisions made to the selection process in the past 10 years, as we believe we have found a sweet spot, but alas it is a game played by humans with a ball that is not round, so nothing is guaranteed, even if we are working off a stat that has performed without fail for 38 years, and figured out how to align ourselves with the house to enjoy their advantage.
My longtime silent partner, confidant and most disciplined and knowledgeable sports gambler I have ever known has recently passed and I am forging ahead in his honor and dedicating this season to him. It would have been easy to hang this up now, but I know he would not approve of that. Bottom line being if you love football and you love gambling, you might as well do what it takes to win the bets. And you might as well share the opportunity. Selections will continue to be free this season.
Long ago, we came to the realization that as much as we knew and studied the teams, the players, the coaches, the matchups, the scheduling quirks and the multitude of statistics available, the only way to win consistently, was to bet consistently. That meant consistency in size of bets and selection method, which ultimately came to be known by us simply as “the system” and to you as the Green Machine. We would not speak during the games (gambling superstition against any sort of positive statement that could jinx the result) but Sunday nights we would enjoy our “Gloat calls”, which generally included an affirmation of “This is why we have a system”. When an unexpected play would alter the outcome of a game in our favor in the final seconds, like Nick Chubb intentionally stepping out of bounds as he proceeded unimpeded toward the end zone with his team leading, but not covering, we would joke that he must have known it was “a system play”. Indeed it was. Now you are all in on the joke, so have a laugh and join in as we will once again WIN ON PRO FOOTBALL.
